New York, NY ( connect2business ) August 22, 2013 - Each year, millions of women choose to undergo a life-saving mastectomy to combat breast cancer. Mastectomies are often followed by reconstructive breast surgeries. Dr. Mihye Choi of KCNY Plastic Surgery in New York says that one of the most effective forms of treatment in use today is the Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy, which is often accompanied with breast reconstruction.

Dr. Choi says that a Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy is effective, since it effectively removes all traces of cancer and reduces a patient's risk of the cancer returning. Dr. Choi adds that the risks associated with such surgeries are very minimal, although she does caution her patients that "leaving the nipple intact leaves a very small amount of breast tissue, which may be at risk later on for developing cancer."

Dr. Mihye Choi graduated from University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1987, and received her general surgery training at Harvard Beth Israel Hospital.
