New York, NY ( connect2business.co.uk ) November 24, 2013 - While they are still fairly new in the United States, Allergan Natrelle ® 410 shaped cohesive gel implants are already making a huge impression on millions of women. Often called "gummy bear" implants because of their distinct shape and jelly-like feel, these implants are now commonly used in reconstructive breast surgery.
New York-based plastic surgeon, Dr. Nolan Karp, is an expert in the field of reconstructive breast surgery. Dr. Karp explains that, for many women, breasts are a sign of femininity, and helps define their own body image. He adds that Natrelle ® 410 breast implants are effective in restoring breasts, with aesthetically pleasing results for patients.
Dr. Karp explains that what sets "gummy-bear" implants apart from other silicone implants is its design and unique feel. "Breast implants usually have a round shape," Dr. Karp explains, "Many women are now finding that round implants give them a highly unnatural look. Natrelle ® 410 breast implants are shaped like teardrops, and closely match the natural shape of a woman's breast. Many women prefer this look. The shape of the breast implant used in the surgery will depend on what type of a look a patient wants to achieve."
Breast reconstructive surgery is growing in popularity, especially among patients who have lost a breast to cancer, according to Dr. Karp. Two-Stage Breast Reconstructive Surgery with implants is a very common form of reconstructive breast surgery. Dr. Karp explains that implant-based breast reconstruction is performed similarly to an augmentation, using silicone-filled implants to replace breast tissue. First, a tissue expander, filled with saltwater, is placed at the site of your planned reconstructed breast. This expander will be in placed over the course of several weeks, in order to stretch out the skin and make room for the implant.
Dr. Karp says that the second stage of the procedure begins once the tissue expander has reached an ideal size. The tissue expander is then removed, and the Natrelle ® 410 implant is put into place. The procedure takes a few hours to complete, and patients will usually experience a recovery period of 2 to 3 weeks.
