Dr. Robert Guida of New York, NY speaks on the benefits of using an image-guided system for patients undergoing endoscopic sinus surgery.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | 03/07/2013 |
New York, NY ( connect2business ) July 3, 2013 - For the nearly 40 million Americans who suffer from sinus infections every year, it can seem like there is no end in sight to the symptoms - headaches, sinus pain, drainage from the nose, and more. Luckily, modern technological advances have led to the emergence of image-guided technology, a way for surgeons to more effectively treat cases of sinusitis through surgery. New York's Dr. Robert Guida recently sat down to discuss the benefits of using the Fusion™ ENT Navigation System when performing endoscopic sinus surgery.
"For any nasal surgeon, it's crucial to stay on the cutting edge of new and emerging technologies," Dr. Guida explains. "The Fusion ENT Navigation System is an example of such technology, and it allows me to more accurately and precisely perform sinus surgery for patients dealing with severe cases of sinusitis."
Explaining in greater detail how exactly the Fusion ENT Navigation System works, Dr. Guida offered, "This image-guidance navigation system allows me to visualize the location of critical structures while performing sinus surgery. Before the surgical procedure begins, a CT scan of the sinuses is used to map out the structures, which is then transferred to the Fusion computer. During the procedure, a headband is placed on the patient's head, working to effectively calibrate the images on the screen with the patient's facial anatomy. This allows the computer to track both the surgical instruments and the facial anatomy, visualizing the entire procedure on a magnified screen."
"Use of the Fusion ENT Navigation System benefits both surgeons and patients alike," offers Dr. Guida. "The 3D visualization provided by this system allows surgeons to more safely navigate through the procedure, staying fully aware of the locations of critical structures. Additionally, this allows for procedures to be more precise, and performed with a greater degree of accuracy." This allows for increased safety, less invasive surgery, better results and quicker recovery.
Speaking on what the addition of the Fusion ENT Navigation System means for his practice, Dr. Guida concluded with this: "The use of this image-guided technology is an innovative step forward in surgical technology. I encourage anyone interested to contact us to learn more about how this system can benefit them."
