Austin, TX ( connect2business.co.uk ) June 26, 2013 - For many, cosmetic surgery is a bit of a mystery—something they are curious about but have only seen the results of. Everyone knows somebody who has had a procedure but not everyone talks about the actual procedure.
Texas plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer L. Walden invited a curious crowd into her operating room to witness a facelift, eyelift and fat grafting. While the doctor did not literally let thousands of inquisitive onlookers into the OR she did allow a local news crew to film the procedures, as well as live-tweet each step and send photos to both Instagram and Vine (Twitter's photo sharing partner).
Dr. Walden was inspired by a brain surgery performed at UCLA with the same social media openness. In hopes of demystifying plastic surgery, Dr. Walden obtained written consent from her patient who was a nurse prior to the procedures and enlisted the help of her top notch operating room team. The doctor then had her tech-savvy intern and staff member film and upload the feed while she performed the procedure—which included a facelift, blepharoplasty, neck liposuction, autologous fat grafting and chemical peel. A full-on beauty makeover indeed.
The entire procedure was filmed and updated with nothing but an iPhone, and with true social media know-how the Austin-based surgeon hash-tagged #liveOR and retweeted some of her followers who had questions or feedback after her work was done!
"As a specialty [we] need to embrace social media as an avenue to reach the public for education regarding what we do, how we do it and a means to demystify procedures," Dr. Walden told Fox 7 News( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgkx3rI5OwU&feature=youtu.be ) who followed the story.
