Future Electronics announces immediate availability of Microchip’s Low Power Wi-Fi Using RN171 Plus PIC MCU with LCD.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | 21/06/2013 |
Montreal, Quebec ( connect2business.co.uk ) June 21, 2013 - Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, announces immediate availability of Microchip's Low Power Wi-Fi Using RN171 Plus PIC MCU with LCD.
It is now possible to add Wi-Fi connectivity to battery-powered applications, and also have good battery lifetime. For applications like digital thermostats, portable medical equipment, and industrial sensors, this opens up new opportunities for communication and data reporting.
With Microchip's LCD Explorer Development Board outfitted with the RN171( http://www.futureelectronics.com/en/Search.aspx?dsNav=Ntk:PartNumberSearch%7cRN171%7c1%7c,Ny:True,Ro:0,Nea:True,N:587 ) low power Wi-Fi PICtail™ board, this opportunity can become reality. Combining Microchip's PIC24F( http://www.futureelectronics.com/en/Search.aspx?dsNav=Ntk:ManufacturerPartNumberUpshiftedSearch%7c*PIC24F*%7c1%7c,Ny:True,Nea:True ) with LCD and the RN171, average currents of just micro-Amps can be achieved, leading to years of battery life.
The 16-bit PIC24FJ128GA310 MCU features XLP low power technology and LCD drive. With a multitude of low power modes, 150μA/MHz run current, 1μA LCD drive current, and down to 10nA sleep, the PIC24F128GA310 family can significantly lower power consumption.
The RN171, which is FCC/CE/IC certified, is a low power TCP/IP networking module featuring a simple ASCII command interface to the MCU. The module supports several key network services including: FTP client, HTTP client, DHCP, UDP, DNS, ARP, and ICMP. Secure communications are supported with on-board WEP-128, WPA-PSK (TKIP), and WPA2-PSK (AES) authentication. Transmission currents are as low as 120mA, and sleep currents are just 4μA.
