Drs. Mollabashy and Gilbert of Greater Dallas Orthopaedics diagnose and treat both malignant and benign tumors of bones and soft tissues in adults and children, including any type of soft tissue sarcoma.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | 17/06/2013 |
Dallas, TX ( connect2business.co.uk ) June 16, 2013 - Soft tissue sarcoma is a type of cancer in which a malignant tumor forms in fat, muscle, nerves, blood vessels, fibrous tissue or the lining of the joints. While sarcomas are not very common, they can be quite serious - especially if diagnosed in a later stage. Luckily, there are options - Dr. Al Mollabashy and Dr. Nathan Gilbert of Greater Dallas Orthopaedics use their combined experience and expertise to treat these tumors.
While the causes of soft tissue sarcomas are currently unknown, research suggests some cases may be hereditary. In other cases, radiation may play a role - usually as a side effect of radiation therapy used in the treatment of other cancers. This risk may be reduced over time, as technology advances and more closely targets the initial malignant areas.
Like other cancers, treatment depends on the size, location, type, and stage of the sarcoma. Radiation and chemotherapy may be used, but surgery is the most common treatment option, especially in cases where malignant cells have not traveled to other areas of the body. Often, radiation and chemotherapy may be used to initially shrink the size of the tumor (neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy), or to kill off any remaining cancer cells (adjuvant chemoradiotherapy).
At Greater Dallas Orthopaedics, Drs. Mollabashy and Gilbert work to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient. Both surgeons communicate with the referring medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, and primary physician to ensure that patients receive the highest level of care and best possible results from their treatment. Both surgeons treat every kind of soft tissue sarcoma, and have extensive knowledge experience in the field of orthopedic surgery.
Many clients travel to Greater Orthopaedics from great distances to receive their expert oncology care. Using their vast expertise and experiences, Dr. Mollabashy and Dr. Gilbert can help to effectively diagnose and treat all types of soft tissue sarcomas.
