New York, NY ( connect2business.co.uk ) March 6, 2014 - The eyelid lift procedure is on the rise among both women and men, according to recent cosmetic surgery statistics. The surgery is so popular because it has both aesthetic and functional benefits, explains Manhattan-based oculoplastic surgeon Bruce K. Moskowitz.
Also known as eyelid surgery or an eyelid lift, blepharoplasty is the third most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the Unites States, after breast augmentation and rhinoplasty, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery. Blepharoplasty's popularity is rapidly growing, with the number of eyelid surgery procedures increasing by 42 percent in recent years, according to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
"Blepharoplasty can correct the issue of baggy eyes, reduce the signs of aging or improve vision," Dr. Moskowitz explains. "Whether the patient is contemplating undergoing the procedure is for aesthetic or medical reasons - or both - my background in ophthalmology allows me to attain results that address both function and beauty."
Dr. Moskowitz received his post-doctoral training in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary, which combined with his oculoplastic training and expertise in revision surgery, allows for the best cosmetic outcome for his patients. People whose eyesight is hindered by baggy eyelids will experience an expanded field of vision following a blepharoplasty.
Most often, people choose to undergo the blepharoplasty procedure in order to rejuvenate their eye area. By expertly removing the excessively baggy tissue above the eyes, the surgery makes the eye area appear more youthful, refreshed and "open". Patients who previously felt that their puffy or drooping upper eyelids made them appear tired, even when they were not, report that the procedure's results now make them look well-rested and vibrant.
"My practice encompasses the entire field of oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, including both functional or medical problems, and cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and face," says Dr. Moskowitz.
