Drs. Peter M. Golman and Brian E. Dubrow restores a patient’s health with cutting-edge MOHS surgery
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | 25/11/2013 |
Los Angeles, CA ( connect2business.co.uk ) November 18, 2013 - Although skin cancer is the most common forms of cancer in the country today, being diagnosed with it can still be a scary, overwhelming prospect. Fortunately, most cases of skin cancer can be diagnosed and successfully treated before they spread to other areas of the body. One of the most effective treatments for skin cancer is MOHS surgery.
Drs. Peter M. Goldman and Brian E. Dubrow, of Goldman Dubrow Dermatology & Laser in California, offer MOHS surgery as an effective treatment for patients diagnosed with skin cancer. Dr. Dubrow is certified in both dermatology and skin pathology, and has successfully performed over 2,000 MOHS surgeries.
MOHS surgery treats the most common forms of skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. Drs. Goldman and Dubrow explain that MOHS surgery is especially useful for treating skin cancers that have a high-risk of recurring, and are located in areas such as the eyes, nose, mouth, hands, or feet. Patients with preexisting health issues that may interfere with the recovery process, such as heart problems, are not usually considered good candidates for the procedure.
The primary goal of this surgery is to remove cancerous layers of tissue from the skin, while preserving the healthy surrounding tissue. MOHS is performed on an outpatient basis, using local anesthesia. Drs. Dubrow and Goldman explain that MOHS is an improvement to traditional skin cancer surgery, since it is less invasive and normally takes a shorter time to complete. Following the procedure, the doctor examines the removed tissue to ensure that it is free of cancer, while the patient waits. If any cancerous tissue is found by the doctor, the process will be repeated until all tissue is free of cancer. Once treatment is completed, patients may need stitches to close wounds from the surgery, which are usually removed after 1 or 2 weeks. Although most patients respond well following surgery, possible side-effects may include scarring, redness, and bruising.
The biggest advantage of the surgery, according to Drs. Dubrow and Goldman, MOHS surgery offers patients a much lower rate of the cancer recurring in the future. Both doctors work closely with each of their patients to ensure the best treatment, and recovery period, possible.
