Are you looking for an exciting analytical role that will provide people with a strong interest in analysis an opportunity to use evidence and data to answer a wide range of important questions across both the UK’s Industrial Strategy and health of the corporate sector? If so, we'd love to hear from you!
About the Team
Special Situations, Investments and Corporate Analysis (SSICA) is a small team of around 20 people. We lead the policy development of the Industrial Strategy for HMT. Our team members come from a diverse range of backgrounds from the corporate world, public sector and beyond. Our priority is to develop all our team members to make the most of their abilities.
Recent examples of our work have included the publication of the Industrial Strategy Green Paper, complex commercial negotiations (for example with large steel companies) and design of business energy schemes.
We support flexible working patterns and a positive work-life balance. We actively encourage individuals from a range of backgrounds to apply and are excited by our ever-expanding Darlington base.
About the Job
In this role, you will:
You will have the opportunity to work with many different parts of the Treasury and other government departments. Your priorities will reflect emerging policy issues across the Industrial Strategy. This means you can test and develop your analytical skills while directly influencing decision-making.
Business and/or finance experience is not essential, but we encourage candidates who can demonstrate an active curiosity about this area, including those with accounting, economics, finance, or consulting backgrounds, as well as existing civil servants.
We are seeking an individual who is comfortable working with a wide-ranging set of stakeholders, internal and external, making evidence-based trade-offs with limited information, and operating in an uncertain, fast-moving environment.
About You
The successful candidate will be able to prioritise and drive forward projects whilst balancing multiple short-term demands. You will have the ability to build and maintain effective relationships and work collaboratively to achieve shared goals. You’ll have the ability to provide clear and compelling advice, based on a robust (quantitative and qualitative) assessment of the underlying evidence, considering the risks and implications of your recommendations.
