Caretaker

My client are seeking a dedicated Hall Manager/Caretaker to ensure that community halls are well-presented, safe and secure. This role involves a variety of maintenance, security and cleaning duties across multiple sites. The successful candidate will work under the Estates Manager and contribute significantly to providing excellent facilities to our community.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage site security across all locations, ensuring all halls are safe and secure.
  • Conduct regular safety checks including weekly visual checks, fire and intruder alarm tests and temperature testing of taps and showers.
  • Ensure that emergency escape routes are clear and well-signposted and perform monthly tests on emergency lighting.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of halls before and after each booking, including setting up and moving equipment as needed.
  • Act as a key point of contact for hirers, meeting and greeting customers and contractors on-site, ensuring their needs are met and explaining safety regulations and hirer liabilities.
  • Liaise with staff responsible for booking halls to keep diaries up-to-date and synchronised.
  • Undertake general maintenance and repairs as required and liaise with the Head of Estates for major issues.
  • Secure all premises at the end of each shift, ensuring each site is safe before finishing.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in security, maintenance, caretaking and cleaning of multi-use buildings or similar facilities.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to handle situations with tact and empathy.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends as required by the rota.
  • Full UK Driving License.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of facilities management; training will be provided if necessary.
  • Desirable: Health and safety qualifications, First Aid training, and knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).

Working hours are based on a two week shift pattern (37hr week average) and will involve working every other weekend.
