Science Technician

We are currently inviting applications for the position of a Science Technician within this esteemed Science department at a well-established secondary school situated in the heart of Wiltshire. This newly created role encompasses part-time hours totalling 17 hours per week, distributed across five days, and is available during term time only (39 weeks of the year). The salary for this position ranges from £9,644.46 to £10,110.80, in addition to a competitive benefits package.

Ideal candidates should possess prior experience in an educational environment, which has equipped them with a comprehensive understanding of health and safety protocols with an interest in the field of science. Furthermore, candidates must hold at least a grade C in GCSE examinations for Mathematics, English, and Science.

As a key responsibility of your role, you are tasked with preparing, delivering, and setting up equipment for classroom activities tailored for both staff and students. This involves completing the necessary documentation for practical sessions. Additionally, you are required to conduct thorough checks on all equipment and work areas to ensure compliant health and safety standards. Faulty equipment must be reported immediately and removed from use to uphold safety protocols.

You should demonstrate a confident manner when referencing the practical side, which is conducted by senior technicians that involve the utilisation of known hazardous materials or when there are requests for uncommon applications. It is important to assist in the preparation of equipment and materials for examinations as instructed by the senior technician. Furthermore, you will assist in the preparation of less common chemicals and biological solutions for practical assignments, as well as provide support in the preparation for A-level coursework in both Biology and Chemistry.
