Equation Recruitment are currently looking for a part-time kitchen assistant, on behalf of our prestigious client in the Buckinghamshire area. If you have previous experience within catering and are looking for your next opportunity, this could be the role for you!
HOURS OF WORK:
Term time only (approx. 34 weeks/year):
Monday 4pm - finish (usually by 9pm)
Tuesday 4pm - finish (usually by 9pm)
Wednesday 4pm - finish (usually by 9pm)
Thursday 4pm - finish (usually by 9pm)
Friday 12pm - 5pm
RESPONSIBLE TO: Head Chef
Primary purpose of a Kitchen Assistant:
To assist with the preparation and serving of evening meals, drinks and other snacks to the pupils,
staff and visitors to the school. Washing up after the meals and cleaning of the kitchen and storage
areas On Fridays, the kitchen is cleaned down thoroughly ready for the following week.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities of a Kitchen Assistant:
- To set up dining areas ready for evening meals.
- Assist chefs with any tasks needed for the meal, such as peeling or chopping vegetables.
- To help dish up and/or serve dinners (Mon-Thu), ensuring pupils and staff with dietary requirements are served the correct meal (support and training will be provided to correctly identify these).
- Washing up of pots/pans etc., and washing, drying, and putting away of clean crockery/cutlery/glassware etc.
- Cleaning down kitchen, emptying bins etc., and closing each night.
- On Fridays to assist with thoroughly deep cleaning kitchen and service equipment.
- To maintain the required level of hygiene standards as laid down both legally and in kitchen.
- To carry out or attend any training as required.
- To always support colleagues to ensure teamwork and discipline are maintained.
- On a daily basis liaise with the Head Chef to the duties needed to be carried out.
- Assist in keeping up to date records in compliance with due diligence.
- To comply with and act in accordance with all school fire regulations and to adhere to the school’s fire policy.
- To arrive at work at the correct time and in the correct uniform ensuring it is in immaculate condition.
- To behave in a friendly and hospitable manner to all staff.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- A flair and enthusiasm for food
- Ability to cope under pressure, in a calm and efficient manner to set deadlines.
- A warm and friendly personality (or good acting skills)
- High standards of cleanliness, tidiness, and hygiene
- Reasonable level of physical stamina - the role is quite physically demanding.
Desirable
- Food hygiene certificate to Level 2
- Some understanding of food allergies/intolerances, particularly the presence of allergens in foods
- Experience in the catering industry at some level
Personal
- Willing to be flexible as a member of a small team. A positive attitude and adventurous approach.
