Chair

Level= are delighted to be supporting a pioneering charity based in Manchester, in their search for a dedicated Chair to steer the governance and strategic direction of the organisation.

Founded in 2005, the charity is dedicated to harnessing the power of sport to uplift disadvantaged communities. They partner with Sport England and Sport Wales, supporting a network of over 1600 organisations to provide accessible sports opportunities. Their vision is to create healthier, safer, and more successful communities through sport, with a focus on equity and inclusion.

Role Overview:

This is an unpaid, strategic leadership role with reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses. As Chair, you will play a key role in ensuring effective governance, supporting the Executive team in setting vision and policy, and promoting impactful change within the organisation.

As Chair you will:

  • Lead the Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance and strategic oversight.
  • Create a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and shared decision-making among trustees.
  • Collaborate with the Executive to set vision, values, and strategic policies
  • Monitor organisational performance and ensure financial sustainability
  • Safeguard the culture, reputation, and values of the organisation.

Who We're Looking For:

You'll thrive in this role if you are:

  • An empathetic and inclusive leader with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Experienced in leadership roles within values-driven, charitable organisations, ideally with governance experience.
  • Passionate about the role of sport in transforming young lives, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
  • Committed to creating equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, with a demonstrated ability to lead in these areas.
  • Knowledgeable about the duties and legal responsibilities of trusteeship.

The Package:

The Chair role is unremunerated, but reasonable out-of-pocket expenses related to travel, subsistence, and accommodation will be covered.

This position requires a commitment of at least two days per month and involves heading three online Board meetings and three in-person awaydays annually. The Chair will also engage with the Chief Executive and other Executive team members on governance and strategy, and attend key events and gatherings.
