Financial Controller-REMOTE


Our client, an SME within IT is looking to recruit a Financial Controller. You will play a pivotal role in managing the financial health of our client’s company. You will oversee all aspects of financial operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), cashflow and cash management, payroll, and customer contract reviews. You will also liaise with external stakeholders, such as accountants, HMRC, Companies House, and other relevant parties, to ensure compliance.

This part-time role offers flexibility, requiring 3-4 days per week or an equivalent reduced-hours-per-day arrangement. There is significant potential for growth in scope and hours as the company expands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable (AP): Process supplier invoices, ensure timely payments, and maintain accurate records.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR): Issue customer invoices, monitor outstanding payments, and manage customer accounts.
  • Cashflow Management: Monitor and forecast cashflow to ensure sufficient working capital.
  • Cash Management: Oversee foreign exchange (FX), capital management, and company liquidity.
  • Payroll Administration: Process payroll, manage PAYE, National Insurance, and pensions, ensuring compliance.
  • Customer Contract Review:
    • Review and provide financial oversight of customer contracts.
    • Ensure contracts align with company policies and financial goals.
    • Collaborate with relevant teams to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance:
    • Prepare monthly management accounts and assist with year-end accounts.
    • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, including VAT and Corporation Tax.
    • Liaise with external accountants for tax filings and statutory accounts.
    • Manage filings with Companies House, ensuring timely submission of accounts and confirmation statements.
    • Support R&D tax credit applications and other financial incentives.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the key contact for financial matters with HMRC, Companies House, external accountants, and other relevant organisations.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial updates to senior business members, including the CEO.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a finance or accounting role, ideally in a small business environment.
  • Strong experience with reviewing and interpreting customer contracts.
  • Solid understanding of financial compliance, including HMRC and Companies House regulations.
  • Proficiency in Xero accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with team members and external stakeholders.
  • Capable of working independently and proactively, ensuring senior leadership is well-informed of financials, including AP, AR, and cashflow.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA) are desirable but not essential.
