Direct Household Underwriter ManagerTo manage the performance and profitable development of the Ageas Direct Household portfolio through the effective control of underwriting and business development activity across all distribution channels.

As the Direct Underwriting Manager you will play a lead role in shaping our underwriting strategy. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Ageas to drive profitable growth and enhance our competitive position in the market.

Main Responsibilities as a Direct Household Underwriting Manager

  • To lead the underwriting management of the Direct Household underwriting portfolio, working with Ageas teams to develop and profitably grow the RIAS and Ageas products and deliver against our strategic ambition and Plan KPIs.
  • Working closely with the wider Household Underwriting, Household Pricing, Technical Underwriting and Strategic Underwriting teams, support the delivery of medium and long term underwriting activity and improvement to continue to push our capabilities to best in class standards
  • To lead the monitoring of the Direct portfolio; analysing performance, profile of business, underwriting rules and documentation and make underwriting changes/recommendations, as appropriate, to control areas of poor performance and optimise profitable growth.
  • To critically evaluate new product propositions in order to project their scale, profitability and recommend any necessary underwriting changes.
  • To manage, motivate and develop your team in order to meet both business objectives and the development of underwriting expertise, ensuring that effective communication and performance management takes place.

Skills and experience you need as a Direct Household Underwriting Manager

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a personal lines Head Office environment in a senior underwriting and/or pricing role is essential.
  • An excellent understanding of underwriting and pricing principles and experience of a wide range of technical issues, including the construction of policy wording, underwriting footprints and pricing structures.
  • Experience in managing through the performance cycle and clear understanding of the drivers of underwriting results across all key performance indicators in the Direct-to-consumer channel. Able to balance the technical and commercial priorities together in successfully managing a portfolio.
