Young Persons Support Worker

Focus Futures UK has been established to support young people with care experience on their journey to independence. We do this through a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach to achieve the best possible outcomes with them.

We are currently seeking to expand our Bristol/Keynsham areas and are looking for workers to join our team either full-time, part-time or on Bank.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring all children are effectively safeguarded in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Implementing effective approaches to improve outcomes for young people aligned to their needs as identified in their pathway plans.
  • Acting as liaison between all key support staff who are working with young people offering advice, guidance and signposting as required.
  • Leading the planning of the shift with other team members as and when required.
  • Being able to refer young people to appropriate services with your professional opinion considering the most effective team/services.
  • Supporting the group of young people, providing 1:1 and weekly groupwork sessions.
  • Applying trauma informed knowledge to your work with young people and ensure this, where appropriate embodies the practice that is provided to our young people. We offer successful candidates a good training and induction programme, to enable the above.
  • You will also need to be available for Rota duty to provide support to young people during the week and weekends. This will be applied on a shift pattern basis, typically shifts run 7am-11pm, 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, sleep-ins from 11pm-8am. Sleep-ins are paid at an additional £50 per night. All shifts are subject to change, in line with young people's needs.

Essential criteria:

  • The desire to be a team player who wants to achieve best possible outcomes for all our children
  • Experience of working with children/young people in social care
  • Knowledge and experience of child development and parenting capacity
  • An understanding of trauma informed practice and how this impacts young people with care experience
  • A willingness to work on a Rota basis evenings and weekends with some sleep-in duties
  • Understanding of how anxiety and depression presents in young people
  • Experience of how to apply a strengths-based approach to your work
  • A child care qualification or a commitment to complete one
  • Experience and/or knowledge in the field of adolescence
  • Have a valid driving licence
  • The right to work in the UK
