Harington is an Ofsted-regulated training provider in North London, supporting around 50 young people with learning differences aged 16-25. We create an inclusive environment that offers personalised education and support in horticulture, retail, and employability skills through individualised programs and internships. We help our students to progress onto further education, employment opportunities, and a live fulfilling life.
Supported Internship Tutor – The Role:
As a Supported Internship tutor, you will play a crucial role in guiding and inspiring our interns as they begin be their journey towards meaningful employment. You will facilitate a supportive learning environment where interns are immersed in real workplace settings, receiving continuous feedback and honing their employability skills. Your dedication and expertise will equip our interns with the confidence and competencies needed to thrive in adulthood and competitive employment.
Supported Internship Tutor – Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver an employability curriculum while embedding functional skills (Entry 3-Level 2) and/or teaching maths and English qualifications at these levels
- Provide engaging teaching sessions that promote skills development and workplace independence
- Implement assessments, target setting, and evaluate interns' progress
- Identify interns' skills to enable participation in work-based tasks that build marketable skills for employment
- Collaborate with employers to create meaningful internship opportunities and facilitate successful placements
- Work with job coaches to conduct workplace, job, and task analyses, as well as job matching activities
- Assist interns in seeking future employment that aligns with their interests and skills
- Act as a personal tutor, responsible for the emotional and social welfare of interns
- Collaborate with parents, local authorities, and other stakeholders to support interns' progression
- Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in accordance with Harington's policies
Supported Internship Tutor – You:
- Diploma in Education and Training (DET), or alternative equivalent teaching qualification or willingness to undertake a teaching qualification
- Experience of students successfully moving onto paid employment
- Teaching experience with students with special educational needs and/or learning differences
- Proven track record of devising a curriculum, writing schemes of work and session plans that demonstrate skills building over time
- Experience of creating personalised learning programmes for students with learning differences
- Strong communicator verbally, in writing and using various IT tools with a diverse group including Senior Managers, other professionals, young people and parents
- Be able to display an awareness, understanding and commitment to the protection and safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults
- To undertake such other duties of a similar nature as required by the Principal
