Part Time Teaching Assistant (Reception - Year 2)

Immediate Start Date

Hallfield School - Edgbaston, Birmingham

Contract Type / Hours: Term time only (35 weeks), including INSET days and open mornings. Monday - Friday (AM only) - 22.5 hours per week with a degree of flexibility around precise start time.

Actual Salary: £10,502 - 11,998 per annum, dependent on experience, skills and qualifications. This salary is based on the above working arrangements and includes paid holiday equating to 5.8 weeks

The Role

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and confident Teaching Assistant with experience of working with children aged 4 - 7 years and an ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of EYFS and Key Stage 1. Suitable candidates will ideally possess a relevant childcare qualification (minimum level 3) and a valid Paediatric First Aid qualification (or willingness to undertake this training).

With a positive and flexible disposition and nurturing approach to supporting children’s learning across the curriculum, the successful candidate will be child focused with a clear understanding of their safeguarding responsibilities.

The ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and colleagues and work independently as well as under instruction is essential and will be assessed during interview.

The key responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with, and under the direction of the Class Teacher, to support with the delivery of high standard education provision.
  • Supervising children at various times throughout the day.
  • Working with small groups and individual children as directed by the Class Teacher, Head of Pre-Prep / Deputy Head of Pre-Prep.
  • Supporting pupils during co-curricular activities and accompanying school trips, including supporting pupil residential visits if required.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Teaching Assistant are:

  • A minimum of a level 2 childcare related qualification.
  • GCSE or equivalent English and Mathematics Grade C or above.
  • Experience of delivering evidence-based interventions, and personalised learning.
  • Experience of tracking and monitoring children’s progress.
  • Experience of working with children in the 4-7 age range.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS and Key Stage 1 Curriculum.
  • A good knowledge of child development and learning processes including barriers to learning.
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements of legislation concerning Safeguarding, Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and inclusion.
