About the role:

This is a part time Maternity Cover starting in September. The role is 3 days a week until July 2025.

A KS2 teacher plays a crucial role in the education and development of children aged 7 to 11 years (Years 3 to 6) in primary schools. The responsibilities of a KS2 teacher encompass a wide range of duties, including:

Teaching and Learning:
  1. Planning Lessons: Designing and preparing lesson plans that meet the national curriculum requirements and cater to the diverse needs of students.
  2. Delivering Lessons: Teaching various subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, and Physical Education.
  3. Assessment and Evaluation: Assessing and recording students' progress through tests, assignments, and observation. Providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
Classroom Management:
  1. Creating a Positive Learning Environment: Establishing and maintaining a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages learning and development.
  2. Behaviour Management: Implementing effective behaviour management strategies to maintain discipline and respect among students.
Support and Guidance:
  1. Individual Support: Providing additional support to students with special educational needs (SEN) or those who are struggling academically or socially.
  2. Pastoral Care: Offering emotional support and guidance to students, promoting their well-being and social development.
Communication and Collaboration:
  1. Parent-Teacher Interaction: Communicating with parents and guardians about their child's progress, achievements, and any concerns. Conducting parent-teacher meetings and providing regular updates.
  2. Team Collaboration: Working collaboratively with other teachers, teaching assistants, and school staff to plan and deliver effective educational programs.
Professional Development:
  1. Continual Professional Development (CPD): Engaging in ongoing professional development activities to stay updated with the latest teaching methods, curriculum changes, and educational research.
Administrative Duties:
  1. Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of students' attendance, progress, and any incidents that occur.
  2. Report Writing: Preparing written reports on students' performance and development for parents, school management, and external bodies when required.
Extra-Curricular Activities:
  1. Organising Activities: Planning and supervising extra-curricular activities, such as school trips, sports events, and clubs, to enhance students' learning experiences outside the classroom.
Compliance and Safeguarding:
  1. Adhering to Policies: Ensuring compliance with school policies, national standards, and safeguarding procedures to protect the welfare of children.

A KS2 teacher must possess strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, along with a passion for teaching and a commitment to the educational and personal development of their students.
